I remember seeing John on TV during the NHL playoffs... What he had to say then really touched me -- he was so courageous in a situation that most of us can not imagine. When I found out tonight that he has passed on.. reading about how he lived the final months.. graduating HS, getting the hit at the baseball game. Well, what can I say? it made a grown man cry. I'm gonna take his message and try my best to apply it to my own life. Thank you for the gift, JC. C+B=L

To the Challis family: I hope you are all doing well. I am sure it is very hard for you without John. Know he is in a better place waiting for God to call each of you home one day to be with John again. He is no longer suffering and free from pain. He is missed by so many. I am sure it helps to comfort you knowing that John touched so many people in his short life lived on earth. You did a wonderful job raising such a fine young man. He kept fighting cancer to live each day that he had left on earth to be with those that meant so much to John. What an honor to have Bishop Zubic at the funeral and to have an article in the Pittsburgh Catholic. Bishop Zubic did a homily about John's love for God. He was such a fighter. Always remember when you are having down days that John touched so many people around the world. He was a brave and courageous young man that was not afraid to all how much God meant to him. May God Bless all of you.

My prayers are with the family and friends of this dear beloved God's child. I too have lost siblings thru cancer and the suffering is the hardest when you pray every second of the day for a cure. May God Watch over you all and the one's that suffer their beloved loss.

To the family of John Challis:

I don't think that there are enough words to describe the way John has touched so many people's lives. I did not know John personally but have followed his story in the paper, on television, etc. He touched my life in a way that we need to treat every single day as a Gift from God because at the end of the day, it truly is. And our time on earth here is only determined by one, God.

Thank you John for your messages about life, for being so positive and so strong in your faith. It is reflected in so many others what you have done. God surely is congratulating you on a job well Done..To me, your a hero, a role model of what more people should be like every day!!!

God Bless you always and forever..and may God watch over your famly during this difficult time..

I was at St. Paul's Seminary on Saturday August 23rd and Bishop Zubik gave a homily about your son John Challis and his brave battle with cancer and his love of God and his church. He was an amazing young man and touched so many peoples lives. John will never be forgotten. May God continue to bless your family.

The Challis Family -

I first "met" John while watching the Pen's game he attended during the cup finals. I'm a Pittsburgh native living in Minnesota and have been trying to keep up on his life happenings. I have been praying daily for him from the night I watched your beautiful, wonderful, charismatic son on television. He was not only an inspiration, he was an apostle on earth spreading God's message. We never know why an "angel" is taken at such a young age, but John seemed to know God's plan. My faith has become stronger after traumas in my life and the deaths of my parents, yet the strength of his Catholic faith at his young age drops me to my knees and makes me know I have much further to go. You should be so proud to have raised such a fine young man. As the prayer I said for John every night ends, he is in "the joy of eternal glory in His loving embrace" and deservedly so. May God Bless your family.
